They can be configured with various collar connection methods, with one combination being a pin-lock collar on one end and a belted-cuff collar on the other, for 12” diameter ducts in 12’ or 25’ lengths. Another configuration uses Norseman's QuickGrip ratchet collar on one end and a wire-ring collar on the other.

Can the Arctic Durashield Plus be used outdoors in harsh weather conditions?

Yes, the Durashield Plus thrives in the cold! It has a cold-crack rating down to -60°F (–51°C) and stays flexible even in the most frigid North American winters, allowing it to pump heat. The urethane-coated polyester construction is also resistant to water, mold, mildew, UV exposure, and cold-weather conditions. It’s also rated to handle the heat generated by the heater unit, with a silicone-fabric lead rated to 500°F (260 °C).

Can the ducting be suspended vertically as well as laid horizontally?

Absolutely, the Arctic Durashield Plus is engineered for both horizontal and vertical airflow applications. Its reinforced wire helix structure helps maintain shape. It ensures consistent airflow regardless of installation orientation. On many sites, the duct lies flat and runs from the heater unit into the workspace. If work is being done in a high-rise unit, the duct should run up the building and into the space where the workers are.

How does the Arctic Durashield Plus help extend duct life in high-wear applications?

The Arctic Durashield Plus features a 500°F-rated silicone fabric lead at the heater connection and a durable FR Santoprene™ wear strip for abrasion protection. These features help protect the duct in areas most susceptible to heat and physical damage, such as when the duct is dragged across an abrasive surface. The urethane coating on the polyester fabric of the duct acts as a protective skin. It makes the duct water- and mold-resistant, keeping it sleek and flexible.

Why do the 12” (pin-lock-belted cuff) and 16” (belted cuff-wire ring) duct have different set-ups?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the flange sizes of common manufactured heating units. Because many heater manufacturers make their 12” flange sizes exactly 12”, a pin-lock attachment works. But for 16” flanges, units can range from 15 1/4" to 17 1/4". A belted cuff accommodates the different sizes so the 16” duct can fit.

Are there custom options for size? How large or long can they get?

The sizes are pretty standard to our manufacturing capacity, but we offer ducts with diameters from 12” to 24” in 2” increments and can be up to 25’ long.
