Can L-Rod berms be used with heavy machinery parked inside?

Absolutely, L-Rod Containment Berms are designed to provide containment for larger areas, including heavy machinery. These berms are excellent at containing wastewater, petroleum products and other chemicals that may come off the equipment.

Can the berm be deployed quickly without tools?

Accepted Answer

L-Rod Secondary Containment Berms are ideal for quick set-up. First, the berm can be unfurled and spread out to cover the desired area. After this, the package of galvanized L-brackets can be opened, and it’s as simple as inserting a bracket in the many pockets along the berm’s outer edge to slot it in place and let the other end rest against the ground. For the quickest method, it’s recommended that you start with two adjoining corners and complete one full side of the berm first. Then, starting from the two corners already staked, install brackets down the other two sides and their respective corners. Wait to stake the fourth and final wall in case you need to move equipment in the berm first. Once entered, stake the final wall, and the berm is set.

How does the L-Rod support system perform in cold or extreme environments?

L-Rod Berms are constructed out of very tough Hyprene™ fabric and handle extreme cold with ease. The standard Hyprene™ XC fabric comes in yellow and is rated to withstand temperatures down to –67°F (–55°C). Some of the other Hyprene™ fabrics available are better for chemical or hydrocarbon protection, but still tackle cold temperatures very well. Hyprene™ CR comes in safety orange and is certified for –13°F (–25°C). Hyprene™ ST comes in multiple colors and handles temperatures down to –49°F (–45°C). Lastly, the Hyprene™ XR-5 comes in black and offers best-in-class chemical, fuel, and abrasion resistance, as well as handling temperatures down to –22°F (–30°C).

How resistant are these berms to abrasion or repeated equipment traffic?

If these berms could talk, they would tell you that handling abrasion and heavy traffic was their job, besides containment, of course. The welds on the berm fabric are made and tested to handle the wear and tear of the traffic moving on it and the fabric is also fire-retardant, passing NFPA701-2010, Test Methods 1 and 2. These berms can be collapsed and reused and are designed to go the distance on all manner of industrial jobsites.

What's “secondary containment” and why does it matter?

Secondary containment prevents leaks and spills from entering the ground and contaminating it. Safety regulations require a system to contain a reasonable amount – or potentially all – content that could damage the environment.

Standard sizes are: 8' x 8' 10' x 10' 12' x 12' But the 12” high L-rod berms can be made to meet your jobsite requirements. Custom containment berms can be 20’ x 50’, 20’ x 60’, and even 30’ x 60’, without compromising the structure's stability.

Do the berms work when full or partial containment is needed?

Secondary containment specifications depend on the job site and region. In most instances, only partial containment is needed, meaning the secondary containment berm is designed to hold a “reasonable amount” of spill from the primary tank until the leak can be stopped. However, our portable secondary containment berms can be adjusted to provide full or partial containment, accommodating fluctuating jobsite safety regulations.

What're the differences between the Hyprene™ XC material and the Hyprene™ XR-5 material?

The Hyprene™ XC material is yellow in color and is stocked in a container. It’s best for water and oil, and it has a lower cold-crack point at -67°F (-55°C). The Hyprene™ XR-5 material is available for custom It'srs. Its abrasion-resistant material is ideal for chemicals and fuel, with a crack point of -22°F (-30°C).
